K
Kylä
Definition
A village or small rural settlement. In Finnish place names kylä marks the traditional centre of a farming community, and many villages still hold a shop, a church or a small museum. In remote areas the nearest supermarket can be a long drive away, so check accommodation details about services. Villages are good bases for day trips, and local hosts often know about seasonal boats and trails. See also: mökki, and the guide Lakeland Finland: A Practical Guide to Lake Travel.
