Mökki

Definition

A summer cottage, often by a lake or the sea and typically with a sauna. Cottage life is a major part of Finnish culture, and many visitors rent a mökki for a week of swimming, rowing and quiet evenings. Check how far the nearest shop is, whether you need a car, and how the stove and sauna work, because remote cottages may have simple facilities. Leave the sauna and jetty tidy.
