T

Tunturi

Definition

A fell, a rounded upland that is often treeless on top, typical of Lapland. Tunturit are low, smooth hills rather than jagged peaks, and their character comes from openness and quiet. Above the tree line the weather can change fast, and in winter wind makes the cold feel harsher. National parks in the north have waymarked routes and simple huts that make fell walking approachable for newcomers.
