Question hub
Are there dangerous animals in Finland?
The answer
Large animals such as bears and elk live in Finland, but encounters are uncommon, and the greatest practical risk for most visitors is a collision with elk or reindeer on the road, particularly at dusk and in the dark months. Keep your distance from wildlife, never feed animals or approach them for a photograph, and follow official advice if you meet a large animal. Reindeer are semi-domesticated and belong to herders, so give them space.
