Lampi

Definition

A small lake or pond, usually found in forest or bog landscapes. There is no sharp size limit between a lampi and a järvi, so treat the word as a clue to small, quiet water, often ringed by trees or wet ground and reached on foot rather than by boat. On a hiking map a lampi can be a landmark, a swimming spot or a place to watch birds in summer. Keep to marked paths around boggy shores.
