R

Ruska

Definition

The autumn colour season, when leaves and fell vegetation turn red, orange and yellow, especially in the north. Ruska peaks in Lapland when the birches and dwarf shrubs on the fells change colour, and it arrives earlier in the north than in the south. It is a popular time for hiking, with cool clear air and fewer insects than in summer. Dates vary from year to year, so check local reports.
