S

Saari

Definition

Island. In Swedish the equivalent is ö, and both words appear on maps of the coast, especially in the Archipelago Sea and Åland, where one source counts about 6,500 islands and skerries. A saari can be large enough to carry roads and villages or small enough to be a bare rock, so check how it is reached: bridge, road ferry or passenger boat.
