Suo

Definition

A bog or mire. Wetlands are widespread in Finland and can be hard to cross off marked paths, even when the ground looks flat on a map. Look for the marsh symbol before choosing a route, and use duckboards where they exist. Boggy areas are often protected habitat for birds and plants, and in winter frozen ground can make some mires easier to cross, though conditions vary.
